While Commonwealth opened its first branch in London on 13th June 1912 (less than 1 year after starting business in Australia), it was in December 1949 it established a dedicated team to assist people moving down under.
A little known fact illustrated the commitment of the Bank in the United Kingdom, as apart from the Bank of England, the Commonwealth Bank is the only bank to have been open for business in London through both world wars.
During its time, Commonwealth Bank London has opened literally tens of thousands of accounts and transferred billions of pounds to Australia.
While the Global recession has effected the number of people taking up skilled migration, Commonwealth Bank is pleased to say that the volume of customers using our services is on the increase.
Migrants from the United Kingdom continue to make up the largest component of Australia's incoming workforce (excluding New Zealand) and we are delighted to be able to assist our customers in what can often be a very stressful time.
Thankyou to our loyal customers and staff for your support and for helping us to achieve this important milestone.
